Supporting Indonesia’s Growing Inbound Tourism

In recent years, many Indonesian travelers visit Japan to experience its four seasons, including cherry blossoms, autumn foliage, and snowy landscapes—something they cannot find in Indonesia. Difficulties in understanding Japanese can lead to concerns about transportation, dining, and shopping, impacting their overall travel experience.

At NAIway, we provide clear and natural translations to enhance hospitality, including:
✔ Tourist guides and access maps
✔ Information for accommodations and transportation
✔ Traditional events and cultural experiences
✔ Notices and important guidelines
✔ Descriptions of Japanese cuisine and menu translations

What is the Indonesian language?

Indonesian, the official language of the Republic of Indonesia, traces its roots to a dialect of Malay—a trade language once widely spoken around the Malacca Strait, bridging the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra.

During Dutch colonial rule, this dialect evolved into Bahasa Indonesia, a unifying national language. Following Japanese occupation, Indonesia declared independence in 1945, officially adopting Indonesian as its national language.

Closely related to Malay (Malaysian), Indonesian shares high mutual intelligibility, though differences in spelling, vocabulary, and even meanings of identical words require caution. It also shares notable similarities with Tagalog (Filipino).

The Grammar of Indonesian

Indonesian is often considered an easy language to learn because it lacks grammatical complexities such as singular and plural distinctions, gendered nouns, verb conjugations, and case changes. Its sentence structure follows the same Subject-Verb-Object (SVO) order as English, and pronunciation is straightforward—words are generally read as they are written, following Romanized spelling rules.

Indonesian shares a strong resemblance with Malay, often called its sibling language. For example, the word for “police” is "polisi" in Indonesian and "polis" in Malay. Due to these similarities, special attention is needed when translating, as spelling differences can sometimes alter meanings.
