Professional Malay Translation Services for Business & Tourism
Malaysia, where Malay (Malaysian) is the official language, has a strong and friendly relationship with Japan. Many Japanese companies have established manufacturing bases there, and in recent years, businesses in retail and food industries have been expanding into the Malaysian market.
Malaysia, with its large Muslim population, is also seen as a gateway to the Islamic market. Products that receive Halal certification in Malaysia can be more easily sold in other Muslim-majority countries, making it a crucial hub for global trade.
At NAIway Translation Services, we provide comprehensive Malay translation solutions for businesses expanding overseas. Our services cover contracts, marketing materials, manuals, catalogs, websites, and more. We work with experienced translators specializing in business, law, engineering, IT, marketing, tourism, and food industries to ensure high-quality, industry-specific translations.
Growing Demand for Malay Translations in Inbound Tourism
The number of Malaysian visitors to Japan is increasing every year. Since many ethnic Malays are Muslim, businesses must be mindful of Islamic customs, including prayer spaces and Halal-friendly services. As a result, the demand for translation services in the tourism sector is rising.
We provide high-quality translations for inbound tourism materials, including guide maps, hotel brochures, restaurant menus, websites, social media content, signage, and safety instructions. Let us help you bridge the language gap and create a Muslim-friendly travel experience in Japan.

What is the Malay language?
The Malay language traces its origins to a trade lingua franca used in the bustling maritime trade around the Strait of Malacca. Today, it serves as the official language of Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei, and is also spoken in parts of southern Thailand and the southern Philippines.
In Malaysia, the language was officially designated as "Malaysian" (Bahasa Malaysia) in 2007, though its native name remains Bahasa Melayu.
Malay shares a strong linguistic connection with Indonesian, as both languages originate from the same root. Speakers can generally communicate with each other, much like regional dialects in Japanese (e.g., Osaka-ben vs. Hakata-ben). However, there are notable differences in spelling, vocabulary, and meaning—some words even have identical spellings but completely different meanings, so caution is required.
One of the easiest languages to learn for Japanese speakers, Malay follows a simple grammatical structure and uses a Latin-based script, making pronunciation straightforward when read phonetically. Additionally, it is easy to transcribe into katakana, further simplifying the learning process.
Malay Script
It uses the Latin alphabet.
How to Say “Hello” in Malay
Selamat tengahari/səˈlɑːmʌt ˈtɛŋaˌhɑːri/
Primary Regions of Use

Language Family: Austroasiatic → Malayo-Polynesian
Spoken In: Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, the Philippines, Thailand, and more
Malay Language Tip
Malay follows a "Subject + Predicate" structure. The predicate can be not only a verb but also a noun phrase, adjective phrase, or prepositional phrase.
For example, the sentence "He/She is a doctor." in Malay is expressed as:
➡ Dia (He/She) + doktor (doctor) = Dia doktor.
Notice that there is no equivalent of the "be" verb as used in English.
